That poodle

On the cynological horizon, starry prestigious breeds are constantly on fire and extinguished, which is promoted by cinema and television, raising collies, then Bassetes, Dobermanns and Rottweilers. And against the background of these passions quietly and peacefully there is a poodle breed. Stable popularity around the world and love among the people, stable demand and supply. Poodle is not subject to the vagaries of fashion, it's classic. It is unlikely that there will be another breed of dogs that has as many variations in size and color as a poodle. And if in other breeds, represented by a large and small version, the standards of all growth categories are different, like - schnauzers, spitz, bull terriers, etc. - then the poodle is the standard one.

The standard poodle is large, and all the others must differ from it only in height. The most difficult task for the breeders. At the end of the 16th century, at the beginning of the 16th century, under the name "poodle," large hunting dogs, shepherd dogs or human companions appeared simultaneously, as well as small varieties, like pets and ladies' ladies. Small poodles also found their application as hunters for shallow water game, in search of truffles, as artists of vagrant groups. As a result of crossing these varieties with each other and with other poodle-shaped dogs, not only appearance was formed, but also a peculiar poodle character and temperament. The first German standard of the Poodle was compiled in 1904. The standard defined two varieties: just a poodle and a dwarf poodle. Just a poodle in height at the withers not more than 50 cm, dwarf poodle - without the designation of growth, but not heavier than 5 kg. Wool must be corded or curly. Color - black, white and brown. Until 1936, the poodle was recognized as an all-European continental breed, but was later declared to be French. Since that time, the French standard for the breed has entered the number 172 in the register of FCI standards. The British Kennel Club and the US have their own standards.

The British standard of the breed "poodle" was compiled for 18 years earlier than in Germany. Its main difference from the European one is that the matings are made without taking into account the color of the parents. As a result of this "multicolour" breeding, many new colors have been obtained. That poodle, as an independent species, was recognized in 1957. Since 1978, a rule has been introduced, according to which a couple can be made up of partners of the same growth variety. In the US, the first standard for poodle was compiled in 1901. Poodles were divided into three, but not growth, and weight categories. In 1905, it was revised and compiled on the basis of the British Standard. In the new US standard, the poodle was singled out - below 30 cm tall and lighter than 10 pounds (4.53 kg).

American poodles in the late 30's were already very small. The Americans managed to get tooe less and less, while simultaneously removing signs of dwarfism, to bring out this good type. A lot of these crumbs, that poodle on special poodle shows and multi-breed shows received the title "The best dog of the exhibition", so the US standard, adopted in 1959, says that that poodle should have a height of less than 25 cm. That poodle is above 10 inches ( 25.4 cm) in the ring is disqualified. In FCI only in 1984 was a variety of that poodle with a growth of less than 28 cm.

In Russia, the first rings of that poodle variety exist since 1989. Unfortunately, even today we can not talk about the stability of growth of that poodle in our breeding. We have individual poodles of 25-26 cm height with a beautiful exterior, but even from such a pair the probability of getting a dwarf poodle is very high. And the most beautiful shows of that poodle are born mainly from crochets, where at least one of the parents is taller than 29-30 cm. Poodles of this growth, unfortunately, often go in the rings of that poodle and often easily bypass the real poodles, but weaker by the exterior.

I think the American standard is more correct, where the growth of that poodle should be up to 25 cm, i.е. in fact, very small and sharply different from the growth of a dwarf poodle. Americans do not think cutters from that poodle in contrast to FCI experts. Therefore, we are forced to exclude from the breeding of 4-5 mammals the poodles of an excellent ex-terrier, on the basis of which does not affect health and beauty in any way. The American standard recognizes many colors and shades for the poodle, and not only homogeneous, which allows for more creative breeding work. It takes a very big and painstaking work of breeders and nurseries, breed enthusiasts that poodle, that gradually, from generation to generation, to select smaller dogs of modern exterior and excellent health.
