Poodle harlequin color

08.02.2009

Poodle colors are extremely diverse. In the FCI standard, six colors are officially recognized: black, white, brown, silver, apricot, red. Occasionally, when poodles of different colors are crossed, puppies of non-standard colors are born: spotted, brindle, cap, tan, sable, fawn. Scheduled selection of such colors is a very difficult task.

Poodles color harlequin officially bred in America, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and they are worth more than poodles of standard colors!
From the point of view of physiology and genetics, non-standard colors do not carry anything harmful to the health of the dog and are not genetic markers of hereditary defects. Most often, the harlequin poodles are obtained by crossing white dogs with truffle skin, with silvery or black, carrying the spot gene.
In January 2008, RKF officially recognized the color harlequin for the poodle. And already in February the first puppies of this coloring took place in our cattery "Gently Born".

How should a real harlequin poodle look like?

Based on the German standard for color harlequin (black and white spotted).
The color of harlequin is dominated by white. White must have a clear boundary from black, namely: the head is black, the white line from the nose to the first cervical vertebra or white "feather" in the crown is permissible.
On the back are two or three black plates. Of course, white should be: limbs, chest and stomach, the ratio - 60% -white, 40% black.
At the Delta-PAL exhibition in Moscow on April 12, 2008, the harlequin poodles were first officially exhibited in Russia. Their presentation was held. All 5 poodles of this color - 1 toy, 3 miniature and one large received the highest ratings of highly professional experts E.Erusalimskaya and N.Maslennikova.
